What is BS IEC 1000-5-4 - Protective devices about?

BS IEC 1000 is a series on Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The goal of Electromagnetic compatibility is the correct operation of different equipment in a common electromagnetic environment. It is also the name given to the associated branch of electrical engineering. BS IEC 1000-5-4 defines how protective devices for High Altitude Nuclear Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) protection of civilian systems are specified. Performance requirements will be given in future IEC standards.
