What is BS EN IEC 6100062 - Electromagnetic compatibility about?

BS EN IEC 61000 is a series on Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The goal of Electromagnetic compatibility is the correct operation of different equipment in a common electromagnetic environment. It is also the name given to the associated branch of electrical engineering. BS EN IEC 6100062 applies to electrical and electronic equipment intended for use in industrial locations, as described below. Immunity requirements in the frequency range 0 Hz to 400 GHz are covered. No tests need to be performed at frequencies where no requirements are specified.

BS EN IEC 6100062 is applicable if no relevant dedicated product or product family EMC immunity standard exists. BS EN IEC 6100062 applies to electrical and electronic equipment intended to be operated in industrial locations, as defined in 3.7, both indoor and outdoor. BS EN IEC 6100062 applies also to equipment intended to be directly connected to a DC distribution network or which is battery operated and intended to be used in industrial locations. BS EN IEC 6100062 defines the immunity test requirements for equipment specified in the scope in relation to continuous and transient conducted and radiated disturbances, including electrostatic discharges.

Who is BS EN IEC 6100062 - Electromagnetic compatibility for?

BS EN IEC 6100062 on Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is applicable to:

  • Telecommunication component manufacturers
  • Telecommunication equipment manufacturers
  • Design engineers
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN IEC 6100062 - Electromagnetic compatibility?

Electromagnetic compatibility is the ability of electrical equipment and systems to function acceptably in their electromagnetic environment, by limiting the unintentional generation, propagation and reception of electromagnetic energy which may cause unwanted effects such as electromagnetic interference (EMI) or even physical damage in operational equipment. BS EN IEC 6100062 discusses test requirements that represent essential electromagnetic compatibility immunity requirements.

Industries with special mitigation measures such measures can be shown to produce an electromagnetic environment equivalent to the residential, commercial, or light-industrial environment, BS EN IEC 6100062 can be applied. Using BS EN IEC 6100062 you can understand electrical and electronic equipment intended for use in industrial locations.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 6100062:2019 supersedes BS EN 6100062:2005. BS EN IEC 6100062:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 6100062:2005. These include:

  • Improvement of the environmental description.
  • Extension of the frequency range for the radio-frequency electromagnetic field test
  • Amended test levels at frequencies
  • For the radio-frequency electromagnetic field
  • Revision of the test levels
