What is BS EN IEC 62052-11 about?

BS EN IEC 62052-11 specifies requirements and associated tests, with their appropriate conditions for type testing of AC and DC electricity meters. BS EN IEC 62052-11 details functional, mechanical, electrical, and marking requirements, test methods, and test conditions, including immunity to external influences covering electromagnetic and climatic environments.

BS EN IEC 62052-11 also covers the common aspects of accuracy testing such as reference conditions, repeatability, and measurement of uncertainty.

BS EN IEC 62052-11 applies to electricity metering equipment designed to:

  • Measure and control electrical energy on electrical networks (mains) with voltage up to 1 000 V AC, or 1 500 V DC
  • Have all functional elements, including add-on modules, enclosed in, or forming a single meter case with exception of indicating displays
  • Operate with integrated displays (electromechanical or static meters)
  • Operate with detached indicating displays, or without an indicating display (static meters only)
  • Be installed in specified matching sockets or racks
  • Optionally, provide additional functions other than those for measurement of electrical energy

Who is BS EN IEC 62052-11 for?

BS EN IEC 62052-11 on electricity metering equipment are beneficial for:

  • Manufacturers of electricity metering equipment
  • Electricity distribution companies
  • Electrical engineers

Why should you use BS EN IEC 62052-11?

Electricity metering equipment are used to measure electricity consumption of a commercial, residential or industrial space.

BS EN IEC 62052-11 helps design metering equipment in a way that allows sealing of the meter case, the meter terminal covers, and the relevant metrological configuration parameters which influence the measurement results. This is particularly important to determine accuracy of readings.

Overall, BS EN IEC 62052-11 helps you establish an electricity metering system by complying with requirements, tests and conditions that take into account operational efficiency and accuracy, safety of operators from hazards caused by high voltages and minimize incidents of short circuits. As a result, consumer confidence and trust in the end-product is enhanced.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 62052-11:2021 supersedes BS EN IEC 6205211:2003+A1:2017, which is withdrawn.

BS EN IEC 62052-11:2021 has replaced the conversion formula which was limited to a matched DUT by a new conversion formula suitable for any load conditions with respect to BS EN IEC 6205211:2003+A1:2017
