What is ISO 8102-1 about?

ISO 8102 discusses electrical requirements for lifts, escalators and moving walks. ISO 8102-1 is the first part of the ISO 8102 multi-series, and discusses electromagnetic compatibility for such electrical equipment. ISO 8102-1 specifies the emission limits in relation to electromagnetic disturbances and test conditions for lifts, escalators and moving walks, which are intended to be permanently installed in buildings.

It is possible, however, that these limits do not provide full protection against disturbances caused to radio and TV reception when such equipment is used within distances given in ISO 8102-1.

Note: ISO 8102-1 is not applicable for apparatus which are manufactured before the date of its publication.

Who is ISO 8102-1 for?

ISO 8102-1 on electrical requirements for lifts, escalators and moving walks (electromagnetic compatibility) is useful for:

  • Lift manufacturers
  • Escalator manufacturers
  • Electrical Engineers
  • Health and safety Bodies
  • Lift maintenance personnel
  • Estate managers

Why should you use ISO 8102-1?

Electrical equipment can function effectively only if it is immune to interference from surrounding electromagnetic fields. Electromagnetic disturbance generated by lifts, escalators and moving walks could cause interference to radio reception. In the case of domestic radio and TV reception, this may adversely affect the quality of reception, but can also block emergency channels and in some cases.

ISO 8102-1 helps you to ensure a level of electromagnetic emission that causes minimal disturbance to other equipment. The emission limits given in ISO 8102-1 are on the basis that equipment of the product family range is installed both indoors and outdoors in all types of buildings, involves the switching of heavy currents and high inductive loads and, generally, is connected to a low-voltage system.

ISO 8102-1 provides a test to assess electromagnetic emission. ISO 8102-1 guides you with the acceptable range for electromagnetic emission limits for lifts, escalators, and walks. This ensures that the signal does not interfere with electronics that customers in surrounding areas may be carrying and using.
