What is IEC 61326-2-3 about?

IEC 61326-2-3 discusses about Electrical Equipment for Measurement.  IEC 61326-2-3 provides precise test setups, operational circumstances, and performance standards for transducers that incorporate or utilise external signal conditioning.

IEC 61326-2-3 covers transducers powered by AC or DC voltage and by battery or with internal power supply.  IEC 61326-2-3 also covers additional and exceptions for specific types of transducers.

Note 1: IEC 61326-2-3 includes transducers for electro-chemical and biological measured quantities.

Note 2: IEC 61326-2-3 applies only to transducers characterized by their ability to transform, with aid of auxiliary energy source, a non-electric quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal, and to output the signal at one or more ports.

Who is IEC 61326-2-3 for?

IEC 61326-2-3 on EMC requirement for transducers  is applicable to:

  • Manufacturers of transducers and its components
  • Suppliers and importers of transducers and its components
  • Electrical design engineer
  • EMC Testing houses for transducers

Why should you use IEC 61326-2-3?

Transducers are used in automation, measurement and control systems, where electrical signals are converted to and from other physical quantities. Thus, EMC testing is mandatory for electrical measuring equipment such as transducers in order to meet all the regulatory EMC requirements for efficient and reliable performance.

IEC 61326-2-3 provides you with all the information about EMC requirements and gives a test plan which includes configuration of EUT, operation conditions of EUT, specification of functional performance and description, making it feasible for you to prepare the transducers for testing in order to be compatible with EMC requirements.

IEC 61326-2-3 also gives you immunity requirements which include conditions during tests, immunity test requirements, random aspects and performance criteria which allows you to gauge immunity standards for transducers so they can resist interferences.

IEC 61326-2-3 helps you improve the performance of transducers and reduce the risk of costly non-compliance.

As EMC testing for electrical measuring equipment is a compulsion in most of the countries, IEC 61326-2-3 is a standard that buyers can easily follow as it covers all the particular requirements and test plans for EMC testing in a very understandable manner.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN IEC 61326-2-3:2021 supersedes BS EN IEC 61326-2-3:2013, which is now withdrawn.

BS EN IEC 61326-2-3:2021 has been updated with respect to IEC 61326-1:2020.
