What is BS EN 6284131 about?  

BS EN 6284131 is part one of the multi-series standards that specify the particular requirements for transportable table saws. 

  • BS EN 6284131 part of IEC 62841 applies to transportable table saws withA toothed single blade
  • Stacked blades that cut a single groove or slot; or 
  • A moulding head cutter 
  • Intended for cutting wood and analogous materials, plastics and nonferrous metals except magnesium with a saw blade diameter between 105 mm and 315 mm, which hereinafter may simply be referred to as saw or tool. 

NOTE- 

This standard does not apply to: 

  • Table saws intended to cut other metals, such as magnesium, steel and iron.  
  • Table saws with an automatic feeding device. 
  • Saws designed for use with abrasive wheels. 
  • Table saws with more than one spindle such as for a scoring blade.

Why should you use BS EN 6284131?  

Transportable table saws can be harmful if not manufactured and used properly with care. Marking should be put on the table saw to warn and guide users about the functioning of the saw. BS EN 6284131 provides guidelines for those marking which help you comply with the rules and regulations.. 

BS EN 6284131 gives guidelines that will make sure that it will not be possible to reach dangerous moving parts through dust collection openings with the detachable part or provisions for dust collection removed. This will ensure that the user is not harmed while operating the table saw.  

BS EN 6284131 provides instructions for guarding above the table so that the saw blade shall be guarded against inadvertent contact from the top and both sides by physical barriers. 

Table saws can sometimes give kick-back while operating which will be dangerous for the operator. BS EN 6284131 lays out requirements for anti-kickback devices that will prevent the kickbacks. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 6284131:2014+A12:2021 supersedes BS EN 62841‑3‑1:2014+A11:2017, which will be withdrawn on 12 March 2025.
