What is BS EN 60811-606 – Methods for determining the density about?

BS EN 60811-606 is the 606th part of IEC 60811 series. The IEC 60811 series specifies the test methods to be used for testing non-metallic materials of all types of cables. These test methods are intended to be referenced in standards for cable construction and for cable materials.

BS EN 60811-606 describes the methods for determining the density for the most common types of insulating and sheathing compounds (cross-linked, PVC, PE, PP, etc.).

Note 1: Non-metallic materials are typically used for insulating, sheathing, bedding, filling or taping within cables.

Note 2: These test methods are accepted as basic and fundamental and have been developed and used over many years principally for the materials in all energy cables. They have also been widely accepted and used for other cables, in particular optical fibre cables, communication and control cables and cables for ships and offshore applications.

Who is BS EN 60811-606 - Methods for determining the density for?

BS EN 60811-606 on methods for determining the density is relevant to:

  • Cable wires manufacturer
  • Sheathing compounds manufacturer
  • Telecommunication industry
  • Non-metallic materials manufacturer
  • Electrical equipment manufacturer
  • Electrical engineers

Why should you use BS EN 60811-606- Methods for determining the density?

The effect of density on product properties varies from one insulation material to another and this is as well valid even within the group of different mineral wool insulation materials.

BS EN 60811-606 provides general terms, suspension method, pycnometer method, and apparent mass method with a test report that ensures the determination process of density for insulation materials.

Compliance with BS EN 60811-606 can help you determine the suitable density of insulating materials depending on their application, and increase durability and safety of electric cables.
