What is BS EN 60811-408 – Long-term stability test for polyethylene and polypropylene about?

BS EN 60811-408 which is a part of IEC 60811 gives the procedure to establish as to whether or not the quality of a cable's components will be satisfactory over the proposed life of a communication cable.

BS EN 60544-2 outlines a test which is considered only as a material selection test to ensure that the chosen materials are satisfactory for the intended life of the cable.

Note: The test duration in BS EN 60544-2 makes the test unsuitable for routine quality control testing; one method found suitable for monitoring raw materials is given in IEC 60811-410

Who is BS EN 60811-408 - Long-term stability test for polyethylene and polypropylene for?

BS EN 60811-408 on long-term stability test for polyethylene and polypropylene is useful for:

  • Communication cable manufacturer
  • Fibre cable inspectors.
  • Telecom Operators
  • Auditors
  • Cable operators

Why should you use BS EN 60811-408 - Long-term stability test for polyethylene and polypropylene

Non-metallic materials are typically used for insulating, sheathing, bedding, filling or taping within cables. All these applications are very necessary for protection of electrical as well as optical fibre cables.  BS EN 60544-2 provides tests and requirements for long-term stability of these materials.

BS EN 60544-2 can help manufacturers of electrical and fibre cable to comply with needs of the customer and provide them with the right material. BS EN 60544-2 guidelines are also useful to cable operators, telecommunication companies in proving better services at low cost by minimizing faults during operation.

Cables used based on the guidance provided in BS EN 60544-2 can help you improve manufacturing process and better quality control.
