1 Scope
This British Standard specifies requirements for the elastic properties of flat, non‑adhesive,
extensible fabric bandages and classifies the bandages according to their function
and performance using the test method described in this standard.
The requirements in this British Standard apply to flat, non‑adhesive, extensible
fabric bandages which are used for one or more of the following:

• dressing retention;

• the provision of support; and
-
• the application of compression.
NOTE 1 Although the application of a compression bandage is a major factor in the successful management of certain venous disorders, such bandages might cause serious injury if used inappropriately or if applied incorrectly.
This British Standard covers the basic description of the products and their performance
requirements.
NOTE 2 Purchasing authorities, therefore, might need to include additional information.
This British Standard does not cover other product properties, such as colour, appearance
and details of additional features.
