What is ISO 10261 about?
ISO 10261 specifies the requirements, content, structure and identification location of a product identification numbering (PIN) system for earth-moving machinery.
Note 1: ISO 10261 PIN can be used on other types of off-road work machines.
Note 2: It is not applicable to the identification of components or attachments.
Who is ISO 10261 for?
ISO 10261 on earth-moving machinery is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of earth-moving machinery
- Construction industry
Why should you use ISO 10261?
Earth-moving equipment refers to a variety of machinery that can excavate, grade, and do other tasks in addition to excavating and grading soil and rock. Heavy-duty construction equipment's dependability and utility are top priorities. In this regard, PIN is a unique set of 17 alphanumeric assigned to a complete by the manufacturer for identification purposes.
ISO 10261 covers requirements on characters in the PIN, word manufacture code, machine descriptor section and machine indicator section, along with guidelines on label/plate location, fixation and markings.
For proper product assembly, testing, and maintenance, the product identification numbering system provided in the ISO 10261 allows for accurate, consistent, and unambiguous identification through the expected life of the earth-moving machinery.
