What is ISO 190143-Components in SRP of CS of EMM about?

ISO 19014 is an International Standard that discusses functional safety of earth-moving machinery (EMM), with the aim to reduce occupational hazards and injuries while operating the machines and equipment.

ISO 190143 is the third part of the multi-series that specifies the minimum requirements for environmental testing of electronic and electrical components identified as safety-related parts of the control system (SRP/CS) used on earthmoving machinery (EMM) as defined in ISO 6165 and their attachments.

Who is ISO 190143- Components in SRP of CS of EMM for?

ISO 190143 on functional safety is useful for:

  • Machine manufacturers
  • Entities involved with commissioning and decommissioning of components
  • Health and safety bodies
  • Market surveillance authorities
  • Accident prevention organizations
  • Regulators
  • Machine designers

Why should you use ISO 190143- Components in SRP of CS of EMM?

Functional safety is a component of overall machine and machine control system safety that is dependent on the proper operation of the Safety-related Control System (SCS) and other risk-reduction measures.

The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events are covered are indicated in ISO 190143. The goal is to reduce the risk associated with a certain danger (or hazardous scenario) during the machine's intended operation.

The test methods recommended by ISO 190143 intends to:

  • Protect electrical components against the ingress of dust present in the operating environment
  • Protect DUT against contact with acids, corrosive gases and salts that can be present in the operating environment
  • Determine resistance of materials and surface coatings of the DUT to corrosion caused by salt mist and salt water in applications where the DUT is exposed to salts
  • Verify that electrical and electronic components are protected against the ingress of liquids present in the operating environment
  • Ensure components resist a high number of temperature cycles and cyclic high ambient humidity

As a result, you can demonstrate the reliability and durability of your electrical and electronic components used in EMMs, thus minimizing the risk of leakage currents, cracking, breakage, detachment, and overall failure.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 190143:2018 supersedes ISO 15998 which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 190143:2018 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 15998. These include:  The main changes compared to the previous document are as follows:

  • Details added to existing test requirements
  • Additional electrical and environmental tests
