What is ISO/TS 151433 about?

ISO/TS 15143-3 is an International Standard that discusses earth-moving machinery and mobile road construction machinery, with the aim to improve safety from occupational hazards.

ISO/TS 151433 is the third part of the multi-series of documents that specifies the communication scheme designed to provide mobile machinery status data from a telematics provider’s server to customer applications via the Internet. The data is collected from a mobile machine using telematics data-logging equipment and stored on a telematics provider’s server.

ISO/TS 151433 is applicable to self-propelled earth-moving machinery as defined in ISO 6165 and mobile road construction machinery as defined in ISO 22242 equipped with location and time instrumentation.

Note: ISO/TS 151433 is not applicable to the on-board data collection, on-board communication protocol (e.g. CANbus) or wireless transmission of the mobile machinery data to the telematics provider’s server after the data have been collected at the data logger.

Who is ISO/TS 151433 for?

ISO/TS 151433 on telematics data for earth-moving and mobile road construction machinery is relevant to:

  • Telematics service provider
  • Manufacturers and suppliers of machinery
  • Equipment manufacturers
  • Integrators
  • Construction industry

Why should you use ISO/TS 151433?

Earthmoving equipment is large machinery, mainly heavy-duty vehicles designed for earthwork construction tasks. They are used to move massive quantities of soil, while road-building equipment is used to compress materials on construction sites and roadways.

ISO/TS 15143-3 is a data schema for data communicated directly from the equipment maker or provider to the equipment owner in a standardised format for the use and convenience of equipment owners with diverse fleets of equipment.

ISO/TS 15143-3 defines a series of web services that provide information about mobile equipment fleets and the telemetry data linked with them. The information on a fleet is made available as a resource, usually on the Internet, at a well-known Uniform Resource Locator (URL) (URL).

These resources can be accessed by the customer application by sending HTTPS GET requests to the server at the specified location. The server returns an equipment information document using a language defined in ISO/TS 15143-3.

The goal of ISO/TS 15143-3 is to provide direct access by end-users to their unique fleet data, rather than to allow third parties to aggregate data among end-users or for other reasons. The adoption of ISO/TS 15143-3 allows each end-user or designated client application developer to construct applications for purposes considered appropriate by the end-user.

ISO/TS 15143-3 will assist you with the improvement of safety management by monitoring both driver and operative behaviour, as well as vehicle and equipment performance.

What’s changed since the last update?

PD ISO/TS 151433:2020 supersedes PD ISO/TS 151433:2016, which is withdrawn. PD ISO/TS 151433:2020   includes some technical changes with respect to PD ISO/TS 151433:2016. These include:

  • Addition of Annex E (normative) that specifies a process for adding new data elements to ISO/TS 15143-3
  • Editorial improvement of the text
