What is BS EN 14628‑1 about?
BS EN 14628‑1 is the first part of a series of documents on ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories. BS EN 14628‑1 specifies the requirements and test methods applicable to factory-applied extruded polyethene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes according to EN 545, EN 598 and EN 969 for use at operating temperatures up to 50 °C.
Note: BS EN 14628‑1 does not apply to ductile iron pipes protected with a thin PE sleeve. Special works at the site like drilling, tapping, etc. can influence the corrosion protection properties. Those job steps are intended to be included in the instructions of pipe saddle and accessory manufacturers and all other essential installation instructions. These instructions are not part of BS EN 14628‑1.
Who is BS EN 14628‑1 for?
BS EN 14628‑1 on ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories are relevant to:
- Manufacturer of iron pipe
- Producer of polyethene (PE)
- Customer of PE coated pipes
Why should you use BS EN 14628‑1?
PE coating provides excellent protection due to its properties such as resistance to ageing.PE coating is generally used at the petroleum and gas pipelines and is being increasingly used for water projects as well.
BS EN 14628‑1 provide information on the surface condition, material properties, finished polyethene coating, performance requirements, test methods for applying polyethene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes.
As a user of BS EN 14628‑1, you get information on how to apply polyethene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes which protect the pipe from corrosion and minimize the risk of leakage and contamination. As a result, BS EN 14628‑1 takes into account the safety and protection of the product end-user while also prolonging the service life of ductile iron pipes and fittings. Overall, with BS EN 14628‑1, you will be able to scale your business.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 14628‑1:2020 supersedes BS EN 14628:2005, which is withdrawn.
In comparison with the previous edition, the following technical modifications have been made:
- EN 14628 has been split into two parts. This part covers factory-applied extruded polyethene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes.
