What is BS EN 146281 about?  

BS EN 146281 is the first part of a series of documents on ductile iron pipes, fittings and accessories. BS EN 146281 specifies the requirements and test methods applicable to factory-applied extruded polyethene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes according to EN 545, EN 598 and EN 969 for use at operating temperatures up to 50 °C. 

Note: BS EN 146281 does not apply to ductile iron pipes protected with a thin PE sleeve. Special works at the site like drilling, tapping, etc. can influence the corrosion protection properties. Those job steps are intended to be included in the instructions of pipe saddle and accessory manufacturers and all other essential installation instructions. These instructions are not part of BS EN 146281.

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 146281:2020 supersedes BS EN 14628:2005, which is withdrawn.

  • EN 14628 has been split into two parts. This part covers factory-applied extruded polyethene coatings for the external corrosion protection of ductile iron pipes.
