What is BS EN 61195 – Double-capped fluorescent lamps about? 

BS EN 61195 is an international standard that discusses double-capped fluorescent lamps' safety specifications. BS EN 61195 specifies the safety requirements for double-capped fluorescent lamps for general lighting purposes of all groups having Fa6, Fa8, G5, G13, 2G13, R17d and W4.3 x 8.5d caps. 

BS EN 61195 specifies the method a manufacturer should use to show compliance with the requirements of BS EN 61195 based on whole production appraisal in association with his test records on finished products. This method can also be applied for certification purposes. Details of a batch test procedure that is used to make a limited assessment of batches are also given in BS EN 61195.

Why should you use BS EN 61195 – Double-capped fluorescent lamps? 

A double-capped fluorescent lamp is a double-capped low-pressure mercury discharge lamp of tubular form in which most of the light is emitted by a layer of fluorescent material excited by the ultra-violet radiation from the discharge. 

BS EN 61195 provides safety requirements which are designed and constructed lamps that in normal use they present no danger to the user of surroundings. It also provides an insulation resistance in which the metal shell of the cap and the pins or contacts is less than 2 MΩ.
