What is BS EN 1458-2 - Rational use of gas-fired tumble dryers about?
BS EN 1458-2 is a European standard that discusses the rational use of gas-fired tumble dryers. BS EN 1458-2 specifies the requirements and test methods for rational use of energy, including measurement of both gas and electrical energy consumption, of domestic direct gas-fired tumble dryers, of types B22D and B23D, of nominal heat input not exceeding 6 kW, hereafter referred to as "appliances".
Note1: BS EN 1458-2 does not apply to:
- Catalytic combustion appliances
- Appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes
- Appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere
- Appliances of the condensing type wherein the heated air and products of combustion used for the drying process are dehumidified by cooling with water or air
- Appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on-board ships or aircraft
Note2: BS EN 1458-2 covers type testing only.
Who is BS EN 1458-2 - Rational use of gas-fired tumble dryers for?
BS EN 1458-2 on the rational use of gas-fired tumble dryers is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of tumble dryers
- Product development teams/innovation teams
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN 1458-2 - Rational use of gas-fired tumble dryers?
A tumble dryer uses an electric heating element to warm up the clothes, whereas a gas tumble dryer burns natural gas (mains gas not LPG).
BS EN 1458-2 specifies the requirements for rational use of energy and a method of measuring the gas and electrical energy consumption which enables the comparison of gas and electrical Tumble dryers.
The naturally obtained gas is limited in quantity and needs to be used rationally. EN 30-2-1 provides guidelines for the rational use of energy and a method of measuring the gas, electrical energy consumption, efficiencies, and maintenance consumption of the direct gas-fired tumble dryers. The use of BS EN 30-2-1 will help you regulate the use of energy and gas rationally.
