What is BS EN 16984 - Disc springs about?

Disc Springs are conically shaped, washer-type components designed to be axially loaded. The advantages of disc springs include a wide range of load/deflection characteristics, high load capacity with small deflection, space savings, consistent performance under design loads, longer fatigue life, flexibility in stack arrangement to meet your application requirements.

BS EN 16984 specifies design criteria and features of disc springs, whether as single-disc springs or as stacks of disc springs. BS EN 16984 includes the definition of relevant concepts as well as design formulae and covers the fatigue life of such springs.

Disc springs are annular coned elements that offer resistance to a compressive load applied axially. They may be designed as single-disc springs or as disc springs stacked in parallel or in series, either singly or in multiples. They may be subjected to both static and fatigue loading and may have flat bearings.

Who is BS EN 16984 - Disc springs for?

BS EN 16984 on disc springs is useful for organizations that design, build and maintain disc springs for the following industries:

  • Oil and natural gas
  • Chemical plants
  • Residential uses
  • Manufacturing sectors
  • Petrochemicals
  • Marine industries

In addition to manufacturers and suppliers of disc springs, the following entities will also use BS EN 16984:

  • Mechanical engineers
  • Inspection bodies
  • Design engineers
  • Research and development team
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 16984 - Disc springs?

Disc Springs are commonly found in a variety of applications including pressure controls and regulators, vehicle braking systems, valves, shock absorbers, clutches, friction assemblies, and joints where thermal / weight cycling occurs.

BS EN 16984 provides you with all the requirements, design formulae related to the strength and thickness calculation of disc springs. Following the guidelines given in BS EN 16984 helps you to design effective disc springs.

BS EN 16984 also provides you with the energy capacity of springs. BS EN 16984 covers the load/deflection curve for a single disc spring, stacking of disc springs, the effect of friction in load/deflection characteristics.

Following the specifications provided in BS EN 16984, lets you manufacture and supply high-quality disc springs to your customers. These customers will be able to safely use the disc springs.
