What is BS EN 13190- Dial thermometers about?

BS EN 13190 is an international standard that discusses aspects of good quality dial thermometers.

BS EN 13190 specifies requirements and testing for dial indicating thermometers using sensing methods of gas expansion (symbol GE), liquid expansion (symbol LE), and bimetallic strip (symbol BM). Nominal sizes are from 40 to 160, and temperature measurements are from -100 degrees C to +700 degrees C.

BS EN 13190 specifies thermometers, that have circular scales and are for industrial use only.

BS EN 13190 also covers thermometers of square form, except for case, scale, and pointer dimensions. Annex A includes recommendations for selection and installation.

Note: BS EN 13190 does not apply to thermometers for medical use nor to thermometers with electrical limit contact devices.

Who is BS EN 13190- Dial thermometers for?

BS EN 13190 on dial thermometers is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers and designers of dial thermometers
  • Suppliers and exporters of dial thermometers
  • Installers of dial thermometers
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Testing authorities
  • Quality control personnel
  • Product development/innovation teams

Why should you use BS EN 13190- Dial thermometers?

Dial indicating thermometer is an instrument consisting of a head and temperature detecting element or stem connected by a rigid stem or, except for a bimetallic thermometer, by a flexible capillary.

BS EN 13190 discusses technical specifications for dial thermometers such as nominal sizes, accuracy classes, dimensions, requirements, etc. that follow the global standards. BS EN 13190 assists you with carrying out testing procedures and explains the designation of the dial thermometers.

BS EN 13190 aids with the temperature detecting element, a sensitive portion of the temperature detecting element, dial, and pointer. BS EN 13190 helps the users to design and manufacture dial thermometers having high efficiency, sensitivity, and reliability.

Overall, BS EN 13190 is useful as it provides guidance on dial thermometers and their test procedures which can be beneficial for your business
