What is ISO/TR 182282 about?

ISO/TR 182282 is the second part of the multi-series standard. ISO/TR 182282 provides general considerations to support the design guidance to geotechnical and civil engineers involved in the design of structures in which a geotextile is used to fulfil the function of separation of soils and below ground structures in contact with natural soils and fills.

These considerations are always based on installed soils, the installation process and on the strength and/or deformation behaviour of geosynthetics.

Who is ISO/TR 182282 for?

ISO/TR 182282 on separation function in geosynthetics is useful for:

  • Geotechnical engineers
  • Civil engineers
  • Public and private contractors

Why should you use ISO/TR 182282?

Geosynthetics are synthetics used to solve civil engineering problems like stabilize terrain, and improve soil condition. Geosynthetics have been successfully used to fulfil the functions of separation, filtration, reinforcement, drainage, barrier, and protection. ISO/TR 18228-2 includes information relating to the separation function.

The geotextile robustness classes resulting from fill material and construction operation stresses are presented in ISO/TR 18228-2. This describes the stress level applied to the separation layer. If a separation product with corresponding geotextile robustness class is applied, it can be assumed that it will withstand these stresses and thereby maintain its separation function.

ISO/TR 18228-2 also throws light on the degree of survivability as a function of subgrade conditions, construction equipment, and lift thickness for separation geotextiles.

ISO/TR 18228-2 provides you guidance for designs using geosynthetics for soils and below ground structures in contact with natural soils, fills and asphalt. ISO/TR 18228-2 lets you explore the various possible designs and structures while guiding you through the process of installations. The guidance on installation makes sure that damage as a result from direct trafficking on top of separation layers is avoided.

Altogether, ISO/TR 18228-2 helps you achieve efficiency with respect to the separation of soil and below ground structures using geosynthetics. This helps establish durable and reliable structures basis several site-specific factors. As a result, with these standardized guidelines you will be able to acquire global acceptance and credibility in field of geotechnical engineering and design.
