Why should you use ISO 3630-1 - Endodontic instruments?
An endodontic instrument is designed to explore, shape, clean, and/or help fill a root canal system. The standard instrument is an endodontic instrument having a uniform taper of 0,02 mm per millimetre of the length of the working part throughout the range of available sizes. Non-standard instrument endodontic instrument, which has a tip diameter and/or shapes other than that of an endodontic standard instrument.
ISO 3630-1 guideline provides best practice guidance on standard instruments, taper instruments, non-taper instruments, non-uniform taper instruments, shape instruments, material, dimensions, mechanical requirements, reprocessing, and sampling for endodontic instruments. ISO 3630-1 provides measurements on visual inspection, measurement of dimensions, resistance to fracture by twisting and angular deflection, stiffness, handle or shank security, and resistance to reprocessing. ISO 3630-1 also provides packaging, labelling, instructions for use, designation, marking, and identification for endodontic instruments. This improves the quality of endodontic instruments and minimizes hazards to the operator. In addition, ensures patient health and safety.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 3630-1:2019 supersedes ISO 3630-1:2019, which has been withdrawn. BS EN ISO 3630-1:2019 has some technical changes with respect to ISO 3630-1:2019. These includes:
- Reorganization with the intention of presenting the requirements and test methods for endodontic instruments in an orderly manner
- Change of the main element of the title of the iso 3630 series to "endodontic instruments”
- Addition of requirements for the current use of nickel-titanium
- Clarification of the option for the handle shape for the manufacturer
- Addition of the new identification symbols in figure 10
