What is BS EN 50524 about?

BS EN 50524 is an international standard on photovoltaic inverters to configure a safe and optimal system with photovoltaic inverters.

BS EN 50524 describes data sheet information for photovoltaic inverters in grid parallel operation.

BS EN 50524 datasheet information is a technical description separate from the photovoltaic inverter.

Note: The nameplate is a sign of durable construction at or in the photovoltaic inverter. Its content can be found in an earlier version of BS EN 50524. For the sake of a unique definition, it is sufficiently defined in EN 62109-1 and EN 62109-2.

Who is BS EN 50524 for?

BS EN 50524 on data sheet for photovoltaic inverters is applicable to:

  • Manufacturers of inverters
  • Suppliers, distributers and importers of photovoltaic inverters

Why should you use BS EN 50524?

Inverters are designed to function within a voltage range defined by the datasheet of the manufacturer. In addition, the datasheet states the inverter's maximum voltage value.

BS EN 50524 gives you information on data sheet information, input parameters, output parameters, optional parameters, characterization of operating performance, safety, operating and construction which allows you to standardize the data sheet information.

The datasheet, characteristics and other parameters provided by BS EN 50524 help you to improve the performance of photovoltaic inverters.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 50524:2021 supersedes BS EN 50524:2009, which is now withdrawn.

Changes in BS EN 50524:2021 include :

  • Name plate requirements removed
  • Revised list of electrical parameters to be indicated
  • Information requirements for systems using external DC/DC converters included
  • Maximum noise emission value harmonized with measuring method specified in EN 62109-1
