What is ISO 753910 about?

ISO 753910 is the 10th part of a multi-series standard. It deals with stress corrosion testing for metals and alloys using the reverse U-bend method.

ISO 753910 specifies procedures for designing, preparing and using reversed U-bend (RUB) test specimens for investigating the susceptibility of the metal to stress corrosion cracking.

ISO 753910 introduces very severe stresses in a high corrosion resistance metal, with minimum relaxation, in order to enhance the likelihood of inducing stress corrosion cracking.

Who is ISO 753910 for?

ISO 753910 on stress corrosion testing for metals and alloys is applicable to:

  • Manufacturers of metals and alloy components
  • Dealers and importers of metals and alloy components
  • Testing houses for metal and alloy components

Why should you use ISO 753910?

Corrosion in metal equipment or structures can compromise their functionality. Prolonged corrosion on metals can inflict severe stress on them and devaluate the metals physical properties. Regular tests should be performed to identify corrosion stress in metals to keep them well maintained.

ISO 753910 provides you with guidance on the reverse U-bend method for corrosion stress testing. It is used as a screening test for tubing, piping, plate, bar and other products including welded materials. The RUB test is a particularly effective test for assessing susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking.

The RUB test described in ISO 753910 is simple and provides rapid screening of corrosion cracking for metals and alloys

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 753910:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 753910:2014, which is now withdrawn.

Changes in BS EN ISO 753910:2020 include:

  • The specimen preparation, i.e. how RUB specimens are machined, bent and fastened, has been revised in Clause 5 and Annexes A and B
  • The experimental procedure of how specimens are tested in a multiple immersion test with different periods or in a serial immersion test has been revised in Clause 6
  • The post-exposure evaluation of how specimens are observed has been revised in Clause 7 and information has been added for the test report in Clause 8
  • Figures A.1, A.2 and B.3 and Table B.1 have been revised
  • New Figures A.3 and B.4 have been added to illustrate the RUB specimen before and after fastening
