What is BS EN 12165 about?
BS EN 12165 is a European standard on copper and copper alloy that discusses the criteria for manufacturing copper alloy rods of various shapes. BS EN 12165 is one of a series of European Standards for the copper and copper alloy products rod, wire, profile, and forgings. BS EN 12165 specifies the composition, property requirements, and dimensional tolerances for forging stock of copper and copper alloys.
The sampling procedures and the methods of test for verification of conformity to the requirements of BS EN 12165 are also specified.
Who is BS EN 12165 for?
BS EN 12165 on copper and copper alloys is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of copper and copper alloys
- Suppliers of copper, copper alloys, and wrought alloys
- Mechanical engineer
Why should you use BS EN 12165?
Forging is a metallurgical process that subjects metal parts to extreme pressures to impart high strength. Forging stock is a section or a piece of metal used to make a forging.
BS EN 12165 outlines all the requirements for the right composition and mechanical properties of materials. BS EN 12165 explains the resistance to dezincification, as well as the dimensions and various tolerances – including form tolerances. It also defines diameter, length, and straightness. Some of the test methods include hardness testing and chemical resistance and corrosion tests.
As a user of BS EN 12165, you can be ensured of materials conform to the necessary requirements by performing a variety of tests. With the necessary guidance and compliance to BS EN 12165, you can efficiently perform forging on copper and copper alloys. BS EN 12165 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 12165:2016 supersedes BS EN 12165:2011 which is withdrawn.
In comparison with EN 12165:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:
- Addition of three new materials: CuZn35Pb1,5AlAs (CW625N), CuZn33Pb1,5AlAs (CW626N), and CuZn33Pb1AlSiAs (CW725R) due to the market requirements on the restriction of lead and modification of the chemical composition for CuZn39Pb1 (CW611N)
- Introduction of an optional procedure how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List for materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water
- Requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification modified
- Provisions for surface quality added
- Mechanical properties for CuZn21Si3P (CW724R) modified
