What is BS EN 127351 about?  

BS EN 127351 is the first part of a series of documents on copper and copper alloys. BS EN 127351 specifies the requirements, sampling, test methods, and conditions of delivery for seamless round copper and copper alloy tubes used for refrigeration and air-conditioning piping systems (i.e. piping, connections and repairs). 

BS EN 127351 applies to tubes with an outside diameter from 3 mm up to and including 219 mm. Tubes made of the copper-grade Cu-DHP are supplied in straight lengths in the material conditions hard or half-hard, or coils in the annealed material condition. 

Tubes made of the alloy CuFe2P are supplied in straight length in the material conditions hard or annealed.

Why should you use BS EN 127351?  

 During the cooling process, pipes come in contact with air which causes oxidation within these pipes. Copper can better handle oxidation and corrosion for longer periods ultimately giving air conditioners and refrigerators a longer lifespan 

BS EN 127351 provides information on the material condition, mechanical properties, surface quality, test methods, inspection documentation, packaging, marking, and form of delivery.

BS EN 127351:2020 supersedes BS EN 127351:2016, which is withdrawn  

In comparison with EN 12735-1:2016, the following changes were made: 

  • Modification of the maximum outside diameter for Cu-DHP, R220, in Table 3 
  • Removal of Note 3 from Table 3 on Mechanical properties 
  • Requirements added in 10.2 concerning marking of tube coverings 
  • Deletion of the last sentence in Freedom from defects test, Update of Normative References 
  • Several editorial amendments
