What is BS EN 12163 about?
BS EN 12163 is a European standard on copper and copper alloy that discusses the criteria for manufacturing copper alloy rods of various shapes. BS EN 12163 is one of a series of European Standards for the copper and copper alloy products rod, wire, profile, and forgings. BS EN 12163 specifies the composition, property requirements, and dimensional tolerances for copper alloy rods in the shape of circles, squares, hexagons, or octagons, finally produced by drawing or extruding intended for general purposes.
The sampling procedures and the methods of test for verification of conformity to the requirements of BS EN 12163 are also specified.
Who is BS EN 12163 for?
BS EN 12163 on copper and copper alloys is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of copper and copper alloys
- Suppliers of copper, copper alloys, and wrought alloys
- Mechanical engineer
Why should you use BS EN 12163?
Copper rod is used as raw material for the manufacturing of electric wire and cables and is produced by either our continuous casting or our drawing or extruding.
BS EN 12163 outlines all the requirements for the right composition and mechanical properties of materials. The standard explains the resistance to dezincification, as well as the dimensions and various tolerances including form tolerances. It also defines diameter, length, and straightness. The sampling procedures and the methods of test for verification of conformity to the requirements of BS EN 12163 are also specified.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 12163, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality copper alloy rods. With BS EN 12163 you can be ensured that products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets
BS EN 12163 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 12163:2016 supersedes BS EN 12163:2011 which is withdrawn.
In comparison with EN 12163:2011, the following significant technical changes were made:
- Introduction of an optional procedure how to refer to restrictions to the chemical composition imposed by the 4 MS Common Composition List for materials used for products accepted for contact with drinking water
- Requirements and test methods for resistance of dezincification modified
- Provisions for surface quality added
- Mechanical properties for cuzn21si3p (CW724R) modified
