What is ISO 10845‑2 about?  

ISO 10845 discusses various aspects of procurement encountered within the construction industry which is relevant for developing countries that lack experience and instruments in this field and can be used to improve international trade. ISO 10845‑2 is an international standard that assists in the formatting and compilation of procurement documentation. 

ISO 10845‑2 is the second part of a multi-part series that in respect of the supply, services, and construction contracts, at both main and subcontract levels specifies: 

  • A format for the compilation of calls for expressions of interest and tender and contract documents 
  • The general principles for compiling procurement documents 

Note: ISO 10845‑2 with some adaptations can be used in the formatting and compilation of concession contracts, design, build, and operating contracts.

Why should you use ISO 10845‑2 

Procurement is the act of obtaining goods or services usually for the business. It is used for creating, managing, and fulfilling contracts. Procurement documents are required to comply with calls for expressions of interest and tender and contract documents. 

The format and how procurement documents are compiled and structured need to be standardized because it allows documents to be simplified and digitized. 

ISO 10845‑2 improves transparency, minimizes ambiguity and errors in and between the documents which make up a contract, enables tenderers to more accurately price the risks which they are to assume. 

ISO 10845‑2 facilitates the development of standardized procurement documents that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization's procurement system. 

By adopting ISO 10845‑1 the reader can readily locate the specific data and requirements they require for the compilation of procurement documents. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS ISO 10845‑2:2020 supersedes BS ISO 10845-2:2011 which is withdrawn. The main changes with respect to the previous edition are: 

  • The scope of work requirements and guidance has been revised and expanded 
  • Definitions and parts of the text has been updated and aligned with other parts of the series
