What is ISO/IEC 17030 about?
Marks of conformity are found on products, certificates and publications denoting the conformity to specified requirements of a product, management system, service, process, person or an organization.
ISO/IEC 17030 specifies general requirements for third- party marks of conformity along with the issuing process, ownership and uses of marks of conformity.
Specially ISO/IEC 17030 specifies the use of third- party marks of conformity in various forms and media including machine readable code, blockchain (distributed ledger) or other electronic means.
Note 1: ISO/IEC 17030 is specially intended to cover but can also be used as guidance in using marks of conformity in activities other than third-party conformity assessment.
Note 2: Certain aspects of ISO/IEC 17030 is not applicable to markings that provide indication of a designation, a code, graphic representations, logos or a classification only.
Note 3: Under ISO/IEC 17030 third-party marks of conformity also include symbols of recognition such as accreditation symbols or a combination of multiple marks. It can also include logos, symbols or a combination thereof.
Note 4: Third-party marks of conformity are based on a conformity assessment scheme.

What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO/IEC 17030:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO/IEC 17030:2009, which is withdrawn. The main changes are as follows:
- Inclusion of Annex A as guidance for the use of third-party marks of conformity issued based on defined object of conformity assessment through conformity assessment standards
- Addition of clarification of the requirement of surveillance, logo/symbol/mark.
- Addition of content related to examples of possible misuse of third-party marks of conformity
- Inclusion of Annex A as guidance for the use of third-party marks of conformity
- Alignment of language with the CASCO toolbox
