What is BS EN 13863-4 - concrete pavement wear resistance testing about?

Concrete pavements are commonly utilized in roads, airports, and bridge decks to handle huge loads and provide long-term solutions. BS EN 13863-4 is a European Standard that discusses concrete pavements and specifies test methods for the determination of wear resistance of concrete pavements to studded tyres.

BS EN 13863-4 is the fourth part of the multi-series that describes a test method for the determination of the wear resistance to studded tyres of specimens either cut from hardened concrete pavements or moulded in the laboratory.

Note: The test method is applicable for the finished concrete (end product testing) and not only for the aggregate as described in EN 1097-9

In comparison to asphalt roads, concrete roads are not affected by adverse weather conditions.

BS EN 13863-4 helps you to determine wear resistance to studded tyres by calculating the depth of rut. Three different configurations of the test equipment are considered in BS EN 13863-4, one using truck wheels and the other two using car wheels.

For accurate test results, BS EN 13863-4 guides you with aspects such as test specimens, test equipment, sample preparation, process, and measurement apparatus.

BS EN 13863-4 helps you to determine whether your concrete paving is resistant to damage from studded tyres so that users can have uninterrupted access to high-performing concrete pavements.
