BS EN 13877-1 is the first part of the multi-series, and specifies requirements for:

  • The constituents (concrete and other materials) of concrete pavements
  • The properties of fresh and hardened concrete

BS EN 13877-1 is applicable to concrete pavements cast in situ.

Note: Concrete compacted by rollers is not covered by BS EN 13877-1.

Why should you use BS EN 13877-1 - Concrete pavement - materials?

Concrete pavements feature prominently in the urban landscape for roadways, parking lots, sidewalks, trails, and driveways.

BS EN 13877-1 refers to EN 206-1. In accordance with the scope of EN 206-1, some additional or different requirements are necessary for pavements, particularly to comply with the safety requirements, durability, environment, and health.

BS EN 13877-1 covers concrete pavements for roads, motorways and airports, pedestrian footpaths, cycle tracks, storage areas, and in general all traffic-bearing structures.

The constituent materials for concrete are selected to meet the specified requirements of BS EN 13877-1 for fresh and hardened concrete. Aspects discussed in 13877-1 include consistency, density, strength, durability, and protection of embedded steel against corrosion.

BS EN 13877-1 provides you with details such as the strength, density, and thickness of concrete pavements, aggregates as well as the types of quality controls for concrete pavements.

BS EN 13877-1 guidelines help you plan and layout concrete paving that complies with requirements so that users have uninterrupted access to high-quality pavements.
