What is BS EN 10130 Low carbon steel flat products about?

BS EN 10130 is the first part of an international multi-series standard that covers the best practices for manufacturing high-quality steel flat products.

BS EN 10130 applies to cold rolled uncoated low carbon steel flat products in rolled widths equal to or over 600 mm for cold forming, with a minimum thickness of 0.35 mm and, unless otherwise agreed at the time of inquiry and order, equal to or less than 3 mm, delivered in sheet, coil, slit coil or cut lengths obtained from slit coil or sheet.

Note: BS EN 10130 does not apply to cold rolled narrow strips (rolling width < 600 mm) nor to flat cold-rolled products for which there is a specific standard, in particular, the following:

  • Cold rolled non-grain oriented magnetic steel sheet and strip (EN 10106
  • Semi-processed steel strip for the construction of magnetic circuits (EN 10126 and EN 10165
  • Blackplate in coils (EN 10205
  • Cold rolled flat products in high yield strength steels for cold-forming (EN 10268
  • Cold rolled uncoated non-alloy mild steel narrow strip for cold forming (EN 10139
  • Cold rolled low carbon steel flat products for vitreous enamelling (EN 10209

Who is BS EN 10130 Low carbon steel flat products for?

BS EN 10130 on Low carbon steel flat products, is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of carbon steel flat products
  • Designers of carbon steel flat products
  • Metal engineers
  • Metal fabrication Industries
  • Testing labs for steel products
  • Regulatory authorities
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 10130 Low carbon steel flat products?

Low carbon steel possesses up to 0.30 percent of carbon content. This class of steel is commonly used for flat-rolled products like sheets or strips. Low carbon steel flat products have a huge range of applications in various industries such as steel frame buildings, machinery parts, cookware, pipelines, metal gates, fencing, etc.

BS EN 10130 provides you with guidance on technical delivery conditions to be considered for the low carbon steel flat products. It gives the specifications for performing tests on low carbon steel flat products, which helps the users to verify the properties such as deoxidation, chemical composition, mechanical properties weldability, etc. of steel flat products.

BS EN 10130 lays down the detailed information about the different tests to be performed, the apparatus needed to perform the test, explains the sampling, and helps the users to execute other steps relevant to the tests.

Users of BS EN 10130 can check the aspects of low carbon steel flat products which gives them proper fit and designs for steel products. It helps users to determine the exact room for error while manufacturing particular products for particular applications.

Thus, BS EN 10130 provides you with comprehensive information useful for designing high-quality, cost-effective low carbon steel flat products with negligible or no manufacturing defects.
