What is BS EN 135239 - Determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating about?
BS EN 13523 is a series on coil coated metals. Coil coated metal is often considered more durable and more corrosion-resistant than most post painted metal. BS EN 135239 specifies the procedure for determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating on a metallic substrate.
The test is applicable to all kinds of organic coatings, including metallics and embossed, textured, pearlescent and printed coatings. The results of the test give an indication of the resistance of the coil-coated metal to water.
Note: The method is not intended to reproduce any particular condition of condensation.
Who is BS EN 135239 - Determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating for?
BS EN 135239 on the determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating is useful for:
- Coal coating sector
- Metal equipment manufacturers
- Metal component manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use BS EN 135239 - Determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating?
The metal coil is brought through an uncoiler, a line-loading accumulator, processed and painted according to requirements, brought through a finish line exit accumulator, and then rewound on a recoiler. BS EN 135239 states that A test panel is immersed in water at about 40 °C for a defined period of time. The degree of blistering on the general surface and the corrosion at the cut edges and scribes are then evaluated.
The test report contains the information that consists of all details necessary to identify the product tested, a reference to this document, i.e. EN 13523‑9:2022, whether the top edge and/or one side edge have been protected, the duration of the test, the method used for removal of loosened coating, if any, the results of the test, as indicated in Clause 10, any deviation from the test method specified, any unusual features (anomalies) observed during the test and the date of the test. Using BS EN 135239 you can specify the procedure for determining the resistance to water immersion of an organic coating on a metallic substrate.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 135239:2022 supersedes BS EN 135239:2014. BS EN 135239:2022 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 135239:2014. These include:
- EN ISO 3696 has been added to 6.1 as a reference for the deionised water
- a remark concerning the assessment of organic coated steel substrates having multiple metallic phases in the zinc-based coating has been added to Clause 10
- “Test specimen” has been harmonized to “test panel” in the entire text
- the list of the existing parts of EN 13523 has been updated
- the text has been editorially revised, and the normative references have been updated
