What is BS EN 13523-12- Test methods for resistance to scratching about?

Standard is the 12th part of BS EN 13523-12 that specifies test methods for resistance to scratching of coil coated metals.

BS EN 13523-12 describes the procedure for determining the resistance of an organic coating on a metallic substrate to penetration by scratching with a needle. It is possible that with some aluminium alloys and thin gauge steel substrate below 0,4 mm, rather than scratching, the needle will deform the substrate.

Who is BS EN 13523-12- Test methods for resistance to scratching for?

BS EN 13523-12 on test methods for resistance to scratching is useful for:

  • Coil coated metal industries
  • Metal coil product manufacturing companies
  • Metal coil transport companies

Why should you use BS EN 13523-12- Test methods for resistance to scratching?

BS EN 13523-12 provides the test methods to assess the resistance of an organic coating on a metallic substrate to penetration by scratching with a needle.

BS EN 13523-12 helps to improve the quality of the  coil coated metals with the suitable testing methods.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 13523-12:2017 supersedes BS EN 13523-12:2004. BS EN 13523-12:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 13523-12:2004. These include:

  • A reference to EN 13523-0 concerning conditioning of the test panels was added
  • The text has been editorially revised and the normative references have been updated
