What is BS EN 1352325 - Resistance to the humidity of coil coated metals about?

BS EN 13523 is a series on coil coated metals. Coil coated metal is often considered more durable and more corrosion-resistant than most post painted metal. Annually, 4.5 million tons of coil coated steel and aluminium are produced and shipped in North America, and 5 million tons in Europe.

BS EN 1352325 specifies a procedure for evaluating the resistance to the humidity of an organic coating on a metallic substrate, by means of exposure in a humidity cabinet under controlled conditions.

Who is BS EN 1352325 - Resistance to the humidity of coil coated metals for?

BS EN 1352325 on the resistance to the humidity of coil coated metals is useful for:

  • Coal coating industries
  • Metal equipment manufacturers
  • Metal component manufacturers
  • Quality control personnel

Why should you use BS EN 1352325 - Resistance to the humidity of coil coated metals?

Coil coating is the continuous and highly automated industrial process for efficiently coating coils of metal. Because the metal is treated before it is cut and formed, the entire surface is cleaned and treated, providing tightly bonded finishes. BS EN 1352325 defines the method that consists of exposing a test panel to humidity, for a pre-determined time, at a specified temperature. The test panel is evaluated for any changes such as blistering or corrosion (e.g., red rust, white rust). Both continuous and cyclic humidity tests can be carried out.

Examine the test panels periodically. Inspection time is as short as possible as further changes can occur outside the cabinet. The point in the cycle when the panels were evaluated is stated in the test report. At the end of the required test, exposure removes the test panels from the humidity cabinet, carefully wipes off surface moisture with soft tissue and immediately conducts the final evaluation. If required, take pictures to record any change caused by exposure. Using BS EN 1352325 you can specify a procedure for evaluating the resistance to the humidity of an organic coating on a metallic substrate.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 1352325:2022 supersedes BS EN 1352325:2014. BS EN 1352325:2022 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 1352325:2014. These include:

  • EN ISO 3696 has been added to 6.1 as a reference for the deionised water
  • A remark concerning the assessment of organic coated steel substrates having multiple metallic phases in the zinc-based coating has been added to Clause 10
  • The list of the existing parts of EN 13523 has been updated
  • The text has been editorially revised, and the normative references have been updated
