What is BS EN 13523-2 about?

BS EN 13523-2 is one of the parts of a multi-series standard which specifies the procedure for determining the gloss of an organic coating on a metallic substrate. Gloss is a characteristic of fundamental importance to the appearance of the coil coated product.

BS EN 13523-2 applicable to all pigmented and unpigmented coatings including metallic/pearlescent coatings. However, for textured coatings, it is only indicative.

Who is BS EN 13523-2 for?

BS EN 135232 on coil coated metals is applicable to:

  • Coil coating chemical industries
  • Sheet metal industry
  • Furniture industry
  • Steel and aluminium industries
  • Manufacturers of aircraft and aerospace
  • Automotive, and mechanical Industries

Why should you use BS EN 13523-2?

BS EN 13523-2 provides test guidelines for organic coating of coil coated metals, which are used for design flexibility, corrosion resistance, and weathering resistance. Adherence to these guidelines ensures increased durability of metals.

By offering test procedure guidelines, BS EN 13523-2 aids in the improvement of the quality of coil coated metals.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 13523-2:2021 supersedes BS EN 13523-2:2014, which is withdrawn. BS EN 13523-2:2021 includes changes with respect to BS EN 13523-2:2014. These include:
