What is ISO 17247-Ultimate analysis of coal and coke about?

ISO 17247 establishes a practice for the ultimate analysis of coal and coke and is intended for general utilization by the coal and coke industries to provide a basis for the comparison of coals and cokes.

Coal and coke are analysed for carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, ash, and moisture. The oxygen by difference is calculated and the results are reported, to the preferred basis, as an ultimate analysis.

Who is ISO 17247-Ultimate analysis of coal and coke for?

ISO 17247 on ultimate analysis is relevant to:

  • Chemical engineers and biogeochemical engineers
  • Coal and coke industries
  • Steel industries
  • Paper industries
  • Coke oven manufacturing industries
  • Metallurgical engineers
  • Producers of hot metals

Why should you use ISO 17247- Ultimate analysis of coal and coke?

Many industries use coal and coal by-products. The concrete and paper industries burn large amounts of coal to produce heat.

ISO 17247 assists the user with ultimate analysis of coal and coke. ISO 17247 is the analysis of a solid mineral fuel reported in terms of its carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, ash, moisture, and oxygen by difference.

Overall, ISO 17247 is helpful as it assists the user in preparing the sample so that it satisfies the requirements of the various test methods.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS ISO 17247:2020 supersedes BS ISO 17247:2013, which is withdrawn.

BS ISO 17247:2020 replaces the second edition (ISO 17247:2013), of which it constitutes a minor revision. BS ISO 17247:2020 includes the following changes compared to the previous edition:

  • Amending the title and the scope
  • Updating of referenced documents
  • Updating of the standard test methods used for ultimate analysis in Table 1
  • Defining of constants in Table 2
