What is BS EN 13063-2 – System chimneys operating under wet conditions about?

BS EN 13063-2 is the second part of the BS EN 13063 multi-series that discusses chimneys. BS EN 13063-2 focuses on system chimneys with clay/ceramic flue liners.

BS EN 13063-2 specifies the requirements and test methods for multiwall system chimneys working under wet conditions (in the following expressed as “wet chimney”) with pressure type N1, N2 or P1 according to EN 1443 and a working temperature below or equal T600 according to BS EN 13063-1, in which the products of combustion are conveyed to the atmosphere through clay/ceramic flue liners. Marking and inspection are also covered by BS EN 13063-2.

Note1: BS EN 13063-2 does not apply to structurally independent (free-standing or self-supporting) system chimneys.

Note2: BS EN 13063-2 does not cover soot fire resistance chimneys.

Who is BS EN 13063-2 – System chimneys operating under wet conditions for?

BS EN 13063-2 on requirements and test methods for system chimneys with clay/ceramic flue liners working under wet conditions is useful for:

  • Chimney designers/ Installers
  • Manufacturers of chimney systems
  • Maintenance personnel
  • Testing and inspection personnel

Why should you use BS EN 13063-2– System chimneys operating under wet conditions?

System chimney is a multiwall construction, consisting mainly of an outer wall, an insulation layer and the inner clay/ceramic flue liner that can work under wet conditions. The flue liner needs to be verified before being incorporated into the chimney or it could hinder the functionality of the chimney.

BS EN 13063-2 guides on the material, physical, design and performance requirements of the flue liner for multiwall system chimneys working under wet conditions. BS EN 13063-2 also provides you with a sequential testing method that helps you to verify that these requirements are met and the chimney operates under wet conditions.

Overall, the guidelines of BS EN 13063-2 enable you to design, construct or install a multiwall system chimney that operates well under wet conditions.
