What is BS EN 14476+A2- Quantitative suspension test about?
BS EN 14476+A2 discusses chemical disinfectants and antiseptics. BS EN 14476+A2 lays out test method and the minimum requirements for virucidal activity of chemical disinfectant and antiseptic products that form a homogeneous physically stable preparation when diluted with hard water – or in the case of ready-to-use products. BS EN 14476+A2 provides guidance on preventing transmission of any infectious disease and meeting a safe and healthy environment.
Products can only be tested at a concentration of 80 % (97 %, with a modified method for special cases) as some dilution is always produced by adding the test organisms and interfering substances.
Note 1: The method described is intended to determine the activity of commercial formulations or active substances under the conditions in which they are used.
Note 2: This method corresponds to a phase 2, step 1 test.
Who is BS EN 14476+A2- Quantitative suspension test for?
BS EN 14476+A2 on evaluation of virucidal activity in the medical area is useful for:
- Hospitals, community medical facilities, and dental institutions
- Clinics- of schools, of kindergartens, and of nursing homes
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use BS EN 14476+A2- Quantitative suspension test?
Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics are both widely used to control infection. They kill microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, and fungi, using chemicals call biocides. Disinfectants are used to kill germs in the medical area. Antiseptics kill microorganisms on instruments used in the medical area.
The laboratory test closely simulates practical conditions of application including pre-drying viruses on a carrier, contact time, temperature, test organisms, and interfering substances.
BS EN 14476+A2 guideline helps you with requirements for virucidal activity in the medical area, materials, reagents, cell cultures, test organisms, preparation of test organism suspensions, product test solutions, cytotoxicity caused by product solutions, the protocol of the results of products, the procedure for assessing the virucidal activity, verification of the methodology, and many more for Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of virucidal activity in the medical area.
This improves the virucidal activity in the medical area and ensures cleanliness and prevents transmission of any infectious disease. In addition, ensures health, safety, and the environment for mankind.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN 14476:2013+A2:2019 supersedes EN 14476:2013+A1:2015, which has been withdrawn. BS EN 14476:2013+A2:2019 has some technical changes with respect to EN 14476:2013+A1:2015.
These include:
- The scope was expanded for the following fields of application within the medical area, i.e., products for textile disinfection
- Obligatory test conditions” were replaced by “minimum test conditions” (test temperatures and contact times can be chosen within limits) that have to be performed to pass the test
- An additional modified method is described to test ready-to-use products in a higher concentration than 80 %, i.e., 9 7%
- For the hygienic hand rub and handwash method a test for the virucidal activity against enveloped viruses with Vaccinia virus was added
- The relationship between this European Standard and the MDD was added (Foreword and Annex ZA)
