What is BS EN 14582Characterization of waste about?

BS EN 14582 specifies a combustion method for the determination of halogen and sulfur contents in materials by combustion in a closed system containing oxygen (calorimetric bomb), and the subsequent analysis of the combustion product using different analytical techniques.

This method described in BS EN 14582 applies to solid, pasty, and liquid samples containing more than 0,025 g/kg of halogen and/or 0,025 g/kg of sulfur content. The limit of detection depends on the element, the matrix, and the determination technique used.

Insoluble halides and sulfate present in the sample or produced during the combustion step are not completely determined by these methods.

Who is BS EN 14582Characterization of waste for?

BS EN 14582 on water quality is relevant to:

  • Chemical Engineer
  • Researchers and scientists
  • Microbiologists
  • Any entity responsible for disposing of waste

Why should you use BS EN 14582Characterization of waste?

Sulfur and halogens (fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and iodine) may be found in materials in various forms.

Using BS EN 14582, one can determine the concentration of halogen and sulfur in materials by burning them in a closed system containing oxygen (calorimetric bomb), along with the characterization of the combustion products.

BS EN 14582 standard is a great tool to help researchers and engineers determine the halogen and sulfur content of waste materials which are hazardous for the environment and is generally accepted since it helps protect the environment from hazardous gases.

You can determine the halogen and sulfur content by applying BS EN 14582, which can lead to better decomposition of waste and help protect the environment.
