What is ISO 10545-15 about?
ISO 10545-15 is the 15th part of the multi-series of International Standard ISO 10545 on ‘Ceramic tiles’. ISO 10545-15 specifies a method for the determination of lead and cadmium given off by the ceramic tiles surface.

Why should you use ISO 10545-15?
Lead and cadmium are the most common metals used in ceramics. However these toxic chemicals could ‘leak’, overexposure to which, is a serious concern.
Ceramic tiles are placed in an acetic acid solution and the amount of lead and cadmium released is determined by an appropriate method mentioned in ISO 10545-15.
ISO 10545-15 provides the analysis test for solutions used to determine the amount of lead and cadmium given in the ceramic tiles.
These test methods give you a description of the tiles, including their nominal sizes, the mass concentration of lead extract and the mass concentration of cadmium which can help you to manufacture ceramic tiles that impart strength as well as longevity to the specific application.

BS EN ISO 10545-15:2021 supersedes EN ISO 10545‑15:1997. BS EN ISO 10545-15:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to EN ISO 10545‑15:1997. These include:
- Correction of typographical errors from the previous edition
- Application of this test method to all tile surfaces.
