This standard specifies carbon steel wire rod, patented cold drawn carbon steel wire and springs (high duty ground wire) for aerospace purposes.

Wire conforming to this specification is suitable for high duty dynamically stressed springs. For other applications where a hard drawn wire is required, wire conforming to BS 2S 201 ought to be used.
