What is ISO 27913 - Pipeline transportation systems about?
ISO 27913 is an international standard used for Carbon dioxide capture, transportation and geological storage. ISO 27913 specifies the requirements and design criteria for manufacturing good quality pipelines. By using ISO 27913 you can ensure safety of your environments.
ISO 27913 specifies additional requirements and recommendations not covered in existing pipeline standards for the transportation of CO2 streams from the capture site to the storage facility where it is primarily stored in a geological formation or used for other purposes (e.g., for EOR or CO2 use).
The system boundary between capture and transportation is the point at the inlet valve of the pipeline, where the composition, temperature and pressure of the CO2 stream are within a certain specified range by the capture process or processes to meet the requirements for transportation as described in this document. The boundary between transportation and storage is the point where the CO2 stream leaves the transportation pipeline infrastructure and enters the storage infrastructure.
Note: ISO 27913 also includes aspects of CO2 stream quality assurance, as well as converging CO2 streams from different sources.
Note 2: Health, safety and environment aspects specific to CO2 transport and monitoring are considered.
Note: ISO 27913 applies to
- Rigid metallic pipelines
- Pipeline systems
- Onshore and offshore pipelines for the transportation of CO2 streams
- Conversion of existing pipelines for the transportation of CO2 streams
- Pipeline transportation of CO2 streams for storage or utilization, and
- Transportation of CO2 in the gaseous and dense phases
Who is ISO 27913 - Pipeline transportation systems for?
ISO 27913on Carbon dioxide capture, transportation and geological storage are useful for:
- Chemical industries
- Food industries
- Oil industries
- Oil refineries
- Fire extinguisher manufacturers
- Pharmaceutical companies
- Scientific laboratories
Why should you use ISO 27913 - Pipeline transportation systems?
Carbon capture is a process used for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) before it enters the atmosphere. This carbon capture helps in transporting and storing it for centuries or millennia.
By using ISO 27913 you can determine the properties of pure and impure carbon dioxide (CO2) that helps in avoiding saturation conditions in the pipeline transportation system. The materials and designs specified in ISO 27913 are useful in constructing and assembling these pipelines. This helps in ensuring the capacity of fluid flow pressure of these pipeline transportation systems. With the help of the design criteria, you can evaluate the performances of these pipelines. Using ISO 27913 you can identify the defects and threats which results in producing good quality pipelines used for transporting carbon dioxide (CO2).
