What is BS EN 60728-4- Passive wideband equipment about?

BS EN 60728-4 is the fourth part of an international standard that discusses cable networks for television signals, sound signals, and interactive services.

BS EN 60728-4 applies to system outlets, splitters, and taps, passive single or multiple port equipment comprising filters, attenuators, equalizers, galvanic isolators, power injectors, cable splices, terminating resistors, and transfer points, but excludes coaxial cables and receiver leads.

BS EN 60728-4:

  • Covers the frequency range 5 MHz to 3 000 MHz
  • Identifies performance requirements for certain parameters
  • Lays down data publication requirements for certain parameters
  • Stipulates methods of measurements
  • Introduces minimum requirements defining quality grades

Note 1: The standardization of any user terminals (i.e., tuners, receivers, decoders, multimedia terminals, etc.) as well as any coaxial, balanced, and optical cables and accessories thereof is excluded.

Note 2: This classification should not be considered as a requirement but as information for users and manufacturers on the minimum quality criteria of the material required to install networks of varied sizes.

Who is BS EN 60728-4- Passive wideband equipment for?

BS EN 60728-4 on Passive wideband equipment is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of passive wideband equipment for coaxial cable networks
  • Manufacturers of electronics components such as splitters, taps, filters, attenuators, equalizers, galvanic isolators, power injectors, cable splices, resistors
  • Testing authorities
  • Regulatory authorities
  • Cable operators and system operators
  • Cable network broadcasters

Why should you use BS EN 60728-4- Passive wideband equipment?

Passive equipment is a piece of equipment (for example, splitters, tap-offs, system outlets, etc.) that does not require a power supply to operate and carry out signal processing in a certain frequency range.

IEC 60728 series deal with cable networks that includes equipment and associated methods of measurement for headend reception, processes and distribution of television signals, sound signals, and their associated data signals, and for processing, interfacing, and transmitting all kinds of signals for interactive services using all applicable transmission media.

BS EN 60728-4 includes:

  • CATV1-networks
  • MATV-networks and SMATV-networks
  • Individual receiving networks and all kinds of equipment, systems and installations installed in such networks.

The extent of this standardization work is from the antennas and/or special signal source inputs to the headend or other interface points to the network up to the terminal input.

BS EN 60728-4 aids you with cable networks for television signals, sound signals, and interactive services that can be beneficial for your business and can help you to expand your business globally.
