What is BS EN 15092 Inline hot water supply tempering valves about?

Tempering valves are temperature activated valve that mixes hot and cold water to achieve a pre-determined outlet temperature and which is fitted between the water heater and the point of use to control the distribution temperature to between 45 °C and 65 °C.

BS EN 15092 is a European Standard that discusses the requirements and test methods for inline hot water supply tempering valves. The main objective of BS EN 15092 is to ensure safe, reliable and effective performance of inline hot water supply tempering valves.

BS EN 15092 specifies dimensions, materials and performance requirements (including methods of test) for in line hot water supply tempering valves for sanitary hot water systems, of nominal sizes from DN 15 to DN 50.

Note: BS EN 15092 guidelines specifies that, the tempering valves are not intended to control the temperature at the point of use.

Who is BS EN 15092 - Inline hot water supply tempering valves for?

BS EN 15092 on inline hot water supply tempering valves is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of tempering valves
  • Product design engineers
  • Quality control and testing personnel
  • Maintenance and installation personnel
  • Mechanical engineers
  • Local authorities

Why should you use BS EN 15092 - Inline hot water supply tempering valves

Tempering valves are an important requirement for controlling the temperature of water in hot water systems. Operational and functional inefficiency of tempering valves can ultimately lead to complete loss of hot water supply, a lack of pressure or a reduced hot water temperature. To avoid such incidents, it is vital that manufacturers adopt best industry practices to determine whether their products are fit for use.

For safe and adequate use of tempering valves, BS EN 15092 provides a classification system based on their temperature class and pressure classes.

To facilitate the safe and efficient use of tempering valves BS EN 15092 provides the best industry guidance on design and dimensional requirements, surface finish and the nature of the material required for its longevity and endurance.

BS EN 15092 also provides mechanical, performance and acoustic test methods, to demonstrate whether your inline hot water supply tempering valves can play a positive role in functioning of water supply systems.

As a result, if you are a manufacturer of inline hot water supply tempering valves, adopting BS EN 15092 requirements and test methods can help you to determine whether or not your products are safe, reliable and effective at the point of use.
