What is BS EN 459-1 - Building lime about?
BS EN 459 is the European standard on building lime that helps with the closing up of hairline cracks that can develop in brickwork or plaster.
BS EN 459-1 is the first part of the BS EN 459 series of documents that applies to building lime used for:
- Preparation of binder for mortar (for example for masonry, rendering and plastering)
- Production of other construction products (for example calcium silicate bricks, autoclaved aerated concrete, concrete, etc.)
- Civil engineering applications (for example soil treatment, asphalt mixtures, etc.).
BS EN 459-1 gives definitions for the different types of building lime and their classification.
BS EN 459-1 also gives requirements for their chemical and physical properties which depend on the type of building lime and specifies the conformity criteria.
Note: Terms of delivery or other contractual conditions, normally included in documents exchanged between the supplier and the purchaser of building lime, are outside the scope of BS EN 459-1.
Who is BS EN 459-1 - Building lime for?
BS EN 459-1 on building lime is useful for:
- Builders and architects
- Civil engineers
- Manufacturers of building limes
Why should you use BS EN 459-1 - Building lime?
Building lime is a group of lime products, exclusively consisting of two families, namely, air lime and lime with hydraulic properties, used in applications or materials for construction, building and civil engineering.
BS EN 459-1 navigates you through the details of air lime and sub-families of air lime that is used for the preparation, or the production of materials used in building construction as well as in civil engineering.
BS EN 459-1 specifies details on lime with hydraulic properties that are classified according to its mechanical compressive strength and has a defined range of available lime content.
BS EN 459-1 provides assessment and verification of constancy of performance of natural hydraulic lime, formulated lime and hydraulic lime.
Moreover, BS EN 459-1 allows you to accomplish building lime for construction, which helps to balance a structure's internal humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture, creating a more comfortable environment and preventing surface condensation and mould formation.
As a result, you may use a high-quality, eco-friendly solution for your building that is inexpensive, simple to apply, and provides long-term advantages in the quality of your work.
