What is BS EN 16864 - Performance of mechatronic padlocks about?  

BS EN 16864 is a European standard on doors, windows, shutters, building hardware and curtain walling that discusses mechatronic padlocks that are used to provide security. 

BS EN 16864 specifies requirements for performance and testing of mechatronic padlocks (MPs) and their keys and/or electronic keys. 

BS EN 16864 establishes categories of uses based on performance tests and grades of security based on design requirements and on performance tests that simulate an attack. If the design incorporates mechanical security means in addition to the mechatronic means, these are also tested. 

NOTE: BS EN 16864 does not cover any other element of a security system, other than those directly involved in the control of a padlock. 

NOTE: BS EN 16864 does not cover the physical testing of multi-function devices such as Smartphones that may be used as part of the control system.

Environmental requirements are mentioned in BS EN 16864 that includes the resistance of MP against water, function within the temperature ranges. 

For key related security, the classification of mechanical code variation and the minimum number of effective mechanical code variations of the MP is specified in BS EN 16864. 

BS EN 16864 set out the mechanical attack resistance requirements based on:
