What is BS EN 131262 about?

BS EN 131262 is the second part of a multi-series of European standard. BS EN 131262 specifies requirements and test methods for durability, strength, security and functionality of window fastener handles.

NOTE: BS EN 131262 does not apply to the following hardware:

  • Handles - primarily for Tilt and Turn, Tilt-First and Turn-Only hardware, refer to EN 13126-3
  • Sash fasteners, refer to EN 13126-14
  • Sliding closing devices, refer to EN 13126-19

Note: The handles covered by BS EN 13126-2 do not have a spindle and the spur is primarily used to achieve the locked closed position.

Who is BS EN 131262 for?

BS EN 131262 on window fastener handles is relevant to:

  • Manufacturers of window and door height windows’ fastener handles
  • Hardware manufacturing and supplying companies

Why should you use BS EN 131262?

Window fasteners handles are used to ensure that windows are securely closed and the property is protected from dangerous incidents. In this regard, BS EN 13126-2 offers you guidance on the necessary requirements and test methods for window fastener handles.

BS EN 13126-2 provides you with the necessary test methods of fastener handles for windows and door height windows that ensures the durability and security of windows, thereby minimising the risk of damage from burglary, vandalism or any other dangerous scenario.

With BS EN 13126-2, you will be able to manufacture window hardware by meeting requirements of corrosion resistance, durability, torsion and tensile strength and security, and undergoing the corresponding tests for the same. Assessment of locking variations as per pre-defined grades will improve overall efficiency.

Overall, BS EN 13126-2 can assist you in establishing a standardized process for the manufacturing of window fastener handles with optimal efficiency and durability. The long service-life is particularly important to enhance the reliability of your product. In addition, the safety and protection of occupants can be assured.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN 131262:2021 supersedes EN 13126-2:2011. BS EN 131262:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 13126-2:2011. These include:

  • EN 13126-2 now is independent from EN 13126-1; all necessary information is included without the need of any further information from EN 13126-1
  • New grades for the number of cycles defined
  • The number of cycles adapted to the newly defined grades for the durability
  • Subclause for locking variations regarding key related security and corrosion resistance added
  • Subclause for security added with new structure
