What is BS EN 1527 – Building hardware about?
BS EN 1527 is a European standard that discusses the hardware for sliding doors and folding doors for building hardware. Builders' hardware is a group of metal hardware specifically used for protection, decoration, and convenience in buildings.
BS EN 1527 specifies requirements for the design manual system sliding doors, sliding corner doors and folding doors of the bi-fold type and multi-panel folding but excluding doors and panels. Cycle tests, static load, initial friction and corrosion resistance tests are included for fitting and track only.
Note 1: BS EN 1527 covers door gear for all industrial, commercial and residential sliding doors and folding doors.
Note 2: BS EN 1527 does not cover the rollers for horizontal sliding hardware for inward or outward sliding folding windows (types N Q R and S), building hardware for lift and slide windows (type P) and building hardware for tilt and slide windows (Type T).

Why should you use BS EN 1527 – Building hardware?
Sliding doors operate without a hinge – they simply glide along a track instead of swinging open. This means that no extra space is required for the door arc because they simply open up by one door sliding over another panel. A folding door is a type of door which opens by folding back in sections. They are usually to be found indoors.
BS EN 1527 discusses the test methods in which the frame is structurally sound and constructed according to the sizes given. It is braced to prevent any movement of the test structure. Where fitted, the jambs of the frame are plumb, parallel and at right angles to the transom. The threshold is level and does not interfere with the operation of the test panel. The transom is suitable for the door widths and mass required and can be replaceable. The fixed part which supports the track or top guide is straight and level within 1 % of the frame width. A suitable base, satisfying the manufacturer's requirements is provided for testing the bottom roller of the design system.
