What is ISO 11855-5 about?
ISO 11855-5 is the fifth part of multiple series that establish requirements for the installation of embedded radiant heating and cooling systems. It specifies general and uniform requirements for the design and construction of heating and cooling floors, ceiling and wall structures to ensure that the heating/cooling systems are suited to the particular application.
The requirements specified by ISO 11855-5 are applicable only to the components of the heating/cooling systems and the elements which are part of the heating/cooling surface, and which are installed due to the heating/cooling systems.
NOTE-
ISO 11855-5 is applicable to water-based embedded surface heating and cooling systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. The methods apply to systems integrated into the wall, floor or ceiling construction without any open-air gaps, but are not applicable to panel systems with open-air gaps which are not integrated into the building structure.
Who is ISO 11855-5 for?
ISO 11855-5 on embedded radiant heating and cooling systems is useful for:
- Construction industry
- Civil engineer
- Architect
- Manufacturer installer or supplier of building material
- Building contractor, operator, investigator, manager
Why should you use ISO 11855-5?
The radiant heating system helps room and floor to heat and it is easy to install under the surface area. The radiant cooling system cools a floor or ceiling by absorbing the heat radiated from the rest of the room.
To reduce corrosion problems when combining plastic pipes with corrodible materials, especially in heating installations, plastic pipes carrying an oxygen-barrier layer are used.
ISO 11855-5 addresses the installation process for the system to operate as intended. It establishes requirements for the installation of embedded radiant heating and cooling systems. By specifying general and uniform requirements for the design and construction of heating and cooling floors, ceiling and wall structures ISO 11855-5 lets you ensure that the heating/cooling systems are suited to the particular application.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 11855-5 supersedes BS EN ISO 11855-5:2015, which is withdrawn.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 118555:2012), which has been technically revised.
The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- Modified Clause 2 (Normative references) and the Bibliography
- Modified Clause 4 (Symbols)
- Added a new subclause on vapour barrier and other layers
- Modified the subclause on insulating layers, perimeter insulating strip adding a new approach and adding details for the thermal resistance of the insulating layer
- Added new subclauses on insulating layers for systems in new constructions and in refurbished systems
- Modified the subclauses on joints, leak test, initial heating up of the emission system and general structural preconditions
- Removed the subclause on maximum heating fluid flow temperatures
- Improved wording and made editorial changes
