What is ISO 118557 - Embedded radiant heating and cooling systems about?

ISO 118557 is the seventh part of the ISO 11855 multi-series that discusses building environment design. ISO 118557 presents a calculation method for the product-specific input parameters for ISO 52031.

ISO 118557 specifies procedures and conditions to enable the heat flow in water-based and electrical surface heating and cooling systems to be determined relative to the medium differential temperature for systems.

ISO 118557 is applicable to water-based embedded surface heating and cooling systems in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. ISO 118557 is also applicable for electrical heated embedded systems. The methods apply to systems integrated into the wall, floor or ceiling construction without any open-air gaps.

Note: ISO 118557 does not apply to ceiling-mounted panel systems with open-air gaps which are not integrated into the building structure.

Who is ISO 118557 - Embedded radiant heating and cooling systems for?

ISO 118557 on input parameters for the energy calculation of embedded radiant heating and cooling systems is useful for:

  • Manufacturers of embedded heating and cooling systems
  • Testing laboratories

Why should you use ISO 118557 - Embedded radiant heating and cooling systems?

ISO 118557 is part of a series that aims at harmonizing methodology for assessing the energy performance of buildings and is referred to as a “set of EPB standards”.

EPB standards follow specific rules to ensure overall consistency, unambiguity, transparency and bring certain flexibility regarding the methods, the required data, and reference.

ISO 118557 assists in providing all the required information regarding methods for calculation of energy losses/requirements of embedded radiant heating and cooling systems in buildings.

ISO 118557 provides you guidance to bring uniformity among methods used for the calculation of radiant heating and cooling systems.

Overall, ISO 11855‑7 provides for optimization of the energy performance of embedded radiant heating and cooling systems and enhances their energy efficiency and sustainability.
