What is ISO 17672- Filler metals for brazing about?

ISO 17672 is an international standard that specifies the compositional ranges of a series of filler metals used for brazing. The filler metals are divided into seven classes, related to their composition, but not necessarily to the major element present.

In the case of composite products, such as flux-coated rods, pastes or plastics tapes, ISO 17672 covers only the filler metal that forms parts of such products. The melting temperatures given in the tables are only approximate, as they necessarily vary within the compositional range of the filler metal. Therefore, they are given only for information. Technical delivery conditions are given for brazing filler metals and products containing brazing filler metals with other constituents such as flux and/or binders.

Who is ISO 17672- Filler metals for brazing for?

ISO 17672 on filler metals for brazing is applicable to:

  • Precious metal jewellery industry
  • Aerospace industry
  • Dental applications
  • Electrical components manufacturers
  • Shipbuilding industry

Why should you use ISO 17672- Filler metals for brazing?

ISO 17672 outlines the most up-to-date specifications associated with the metal joining process of brazing. The filler metals are divided into seven classes, related to their composition, but not necessarily to the major element present. Technical guidelines and delivery conditions in ISO 17672 are given for brazing filler metals and products containing brazing filler metals with other constituents such as flux and/or binders.

Filler metals for brazing must be classified according to their composition. ISO 17672 provides the compositional ranges of a series of filler metals used for brazing. This aids in high-quality brazing processes.

ISO 17672 also provides codification of filler metals that design engineers can use to identify standard filler metals for brazing elements.

What’s changed since the last update?

BS EN ISO 17672:2016 supersedes BS EN ISO 17672:2010 which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 17672:2016 has been technically revised.
