What is BS EN 12697-19 about?

BS EN 12697-19 is the 19th part of the multi-series of European standard applicable to the bituminous mixtures.

BS EN 12697-19 specifies a method for determining the vertical and horizontal permeability of

cylindrical specimens of bituminous mixtures with interconnecting voids.

Note: BS EN 12697-19 applies to specimens cored out of the road, specimens from laboratory-made slabs or laboratory specimens prepared with a compaction device provided the thickness of the specimen is not less than twice the nominal maximum particle size of the aggregate in the mixture.

Who is BS EN 12697-19 for?

BS EN 12697-19 on the permeability of specimen is useful for:

  • Manufacturers and suppliers of bituminous mixtures
  • Suppliers of construction materials
  • Construction and civil engineers
  • Contractors
  • Road maintenance authorities
  • Testing laboratories

Why should you use BS EN 12697-19?

The rate of settlement of saturated soil under load is influenced by permeability. The permeability of slopes and retaining structures can have a significant impact on their stability.

BS EN 12697-19 defines a method for evaluating the vertical and horizontal permeability of cylindrical bituminous mixture specimens with interconnecting voids.

The test methods for water flowing partially horizontally through the specimen are specified in BS EN 12697-19. It delivers a combination of vertical and horizontal permeability as a test result. This can assist you in determining how easily water can flow through specimens.

With BS EN 12697-19, you can ensure smooth flow of a fluid through a porous substance, ensuring high quality and performance of the end-use application.
